Sometimes holidays smell like salt. Sometimes by pine needles. Sometimes after both at the same time. At Wildwood Camping on Rügen, a step out of the caravan is enough and the day does not yet know exactly what it wants to be. First a coffee with a view of the water. Then maybe a round of swimming. Or a walk through the forest. The seagulls commented everything unasked. Children disappear towards the beach and return hours later as if they had led an expedition. Dogs discover the same meadow every day with the same enthusiasm as the first time. And adults suddenly sit on a camping chair, look at the Bodden and realize that they have not done anything for a quarter of an hour. Nothing at all. Wonderful. In the evening the light will be golden. The water becomes quieter. Somewhere a tent herring box rattles. Someone laughs. Someone talks about an excursion that should actually only be a short walk. And as the sun slowly disappears behind the horizon, what happens in some places happens all by itself: a holiday day becomes a memory. Wildwood is such a place. One on which the clock continues to run, but no one pays special attention.
